Arriving into England
By Air:
Nearest International Airport: Leeds/Bradford and Manchester International
There is an Airlink 757 bus to Leeds railway station from Leeds/Bradford airport. There are train services from Leeds to Malton (journey time 55 minutes) where you can take a bus (or taxi) to Helmsley 16 miles away.
By Sea:
Nearest Ferry Terminal: Hull
P & O Ferries operate daily services between Hull and Rotterdam (journey time 13 hours 30 minutes) and Zeebrugge (journey time 11 hours). From Hull Ferry Terminal, Bus 19 operates to Hull railway station. There are train services to Malton (journey time 2 hours) where you can take a bus (or taxi) to Helmsley 16 miles away.
By Rail:
Nearest Railway Station: York train station.
There are many train services to York from around the UK where you can connect with a service to Malton (journey time 25 minutes). There is a fast and frequent service from London Kings Cross to York (journey time 2 hours, Manchester 1.5 hours and Edinburgh 2.5 hours). From Malton you can take a bus (or taxi) to Helmsley 16 miles away.
By Road:
If you plan to travel by car you can leave it in Helmsley for the duration of your holiday.
There is a car park on the north side of Helmsley close to the start of the Cleveland Way. Weekly parking tickets are available from Helmsley TIC. If leaving your car for more than a week please inform Helmsley Police (Tel: 01439 70310). If you cannot get through please contact Malton Police (Tel: 01653 692424). Return to your car in Helmsley by catching a bus from Filey (journey time 2 hours 30 minutes).
Getting to Helmsley
From York train station take a train to Malton (journey time 25 minutes) where you can take a bus (or taxi) to Helmsley 16 miles away.
Returning from Filey
From the end of the walk at Filey you can travel onwards by all forms of public transport as it is well linked.
By Sea:
Regular train services operate from Filey to Hull (journey time 1 hour 15 minutes). Then travel by bus to the ferry terminal.
By Rail:
Regular train services operate from Filey to London Kings Cross via Scarborough and York (journey time 3 hours 30 minutes) and North to Edinburgh on the East Coast mainline (journey time 4 hours 30 minutes).
By Road:
National Express coach services serve York and the Yorkshire Coastliner bus 845 links Filey with York. If you have left your car in Helmsley you will be able to return to it by using the bus service from Filey via Scarborough.

Train Tickets
Great savings can be made by buying your train tickets in advance through the Trainline website at www.thetrainline.com. Although tickets can only be mailed to a UK address, overseas customers can still order tickets in advance and collect them from a Fast Ticket machine in the UK. Fast Ticket machines are located in most mainline railway stations.
