Getting to the start of the walk at North Queensferry and from the end at Newport-on-Tay you can travel by public transport, as they are both well linked.
Arriving into Scotland
By Air:
Nearest major International Airport: Edinburgh
An airport shuttle bus operates to Edinburgh city centre (journey time 25 minutes).
Flybe serve most regional UK airports as well as Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris and other European airports.
By Rail:
Nearest Major Railway Station: Edinburgh
The closest East Coast main line station is Edinburgh which links with trains to North Queensferry. GNER services operate from London to Edinburgh (journey time 4 hours 30 minutes) and Virgin services between the Southwest, Midlands & Scotland stop here.
Getting to North Queensferry
By Rail: Nearest Railway Station: North Queensferry
North Queensferry can easily be accessed from Edinburgh by train (journey time 20 minutes) or Glasgow (1 hour 15 minutes).
Returning from Newport-on-Tay
By Rail:
Nearest Railway Station: Dundee
You can continue walking to Dundee over the Tay Bridge which is approximately 2 miles and take a train from Dundee or you can travel back to St Andrews (by taxi) and continue on from there.
There are train services from Dundee to Edinburgh (journey time 1 hour 20 minutes) and train services from Leuchars (near St Andrews) to Edinburgh (journey time approximately 1 hour).
By Road:
Dundee is also accessible by National Express coaches and regular buses operate between St Andrews and Edinburgh where there are links to the rest of the UK.
Train Tickets
Great savings can be made by buying your train tickets in advance through the Trainline website at www.thetrainline.com. Although tickets can only be mailed to a UK address, overseas customers can still order tickets in advance and collect them from a Fast Ticket machine in the UK. Fast Ticket machines are located in most mainline railway stations.
