New Long Distance Walking Trails for 2012

As this year's walking season will be coming to a close next month we've now decided on the new long distance walking trails we'll be adding for 2012.

After careful consideration we've decided to offer packages on 5 trails next year and we'll be adding the details in the next few weeks.

In England we'll be offering our first trail in the South East with the South Downs Way - you can see further details of this on the official National Trail website by clicking here. Walking this route will allow you to experience some of a England's finest countryside between the Cathedral city of Winchester and the white chalk cliffs of Eastbourne. If you are interested in great views, attractive wildlife, visible prehistory, fine pubs and pretty villages the South Downs Way is definitely for you.

Also in England, but in the North East this time, we'll be adding the Northumberland Coast Path and the St Oswald's Way. The 64 mile Northumberland Coast Path forms part of the international North Sea Trail, and starts at the small village of Cresswell in the south and ends in the historic town of Berwick upon Tweed in the north.

Also in Northumberland is the St Oswald's Way which explores some of the finest landscapes and fascinating history of the area. On this 97 mile trail you will discover historic castles, a dramatic coastline, islands, scenic river valleys, hills, attractive villages, forest and farmland. The route starts at Holy Island (Lindisfarne) in the north, follows the stunning Northumberland coast, before heading inland across beautiful countryside to Heavenfield and Hadrian’s Wall in the south. You could combine the St Oswald's Way with either the St Cuthbert's Way or Hadrian's Wall Path.......or both !

In Wales we'll be adding the Pembrokeshire Coast Path which twists and turns its way through 186 miles of the most breathtaking coastal scenery in Britain. From St Dogmaels in the north to Amroth in the south, the trail covers almost every kind of maritime landscape from rugged cliff tops and sheltered coves to wide-open beaches and winding estuaries. Further detail so this wonderful trail can be found by clicking here.

Finally, and keeping with the coastal theme, we'll be adding the Fife Coastal Path in Scotland. From our base here in Edinburgh we've walked this route many times over the years as it runs from the Forth Estuary in the south, to the Tay Estuary in the north. Walking the Fife Coastal Path is an experience not to be missed - from the cosmopolitan atmosphere of St. Andrews to the former coal mining towns of central Fife; from the small fishing villages of the East Neuk to the bustling industrial areas of the west, rugged cliffs, award winning beaches, internationally important estuaries and wildlife reserves.

The new packages will be live on our website in the next couple of weeks, so please check back soon for further details.
