Getting to the start of the walk at Skipton and from the end at Penrith you can travel by public transport, as they are both well linked.

Arriving into England

By Air:
Nearest major International Airport: Manchester

Manchester International Airport is the closest airport to Skipton. You can then take a train to Leeds and connect to Skipton from there.

Getting to Skipton

By Rail:
Nearest Railway Station: Skipton

Skipton has a train station, and is easily accessible from the north and south via Leeds. There are trains from London, which take around four hours.

By Road:
If you plan to travel by car it is sometimes possible to leave it at the Guest House or Hotel at the start or end of your walk, for the duration of your holiday. We can check this for you when your booking is confirmed.

Skipton is also accessible by National Express coaches.

Returning from Penrith

By Rail:
Nearest Railway Station: Penrith

You can take the train from Penrith to Carlisle, and from here it is easy to connect whether you are heading north or south. The train from Penrith back to Skipton is around 2 and a half hours.

By Road:
Penrith is also served by National Express coaches.

Train Tickets
Great savings can be made by buying your train tickets in advance through the Trainline website at Although tickets can only be mailed to a UK address, overseas customers can still order tickets in advance and collect them from a Fast Ticket machine in the UK. Fast Ticket machines are located in most mainline railway stations.
