South West Coast Path (Penzance to Falmouth) Highlights

  • Experience an incredibly varied stretch of coastline with stunning beaches, dramatic cliffs, and jewel-coloured waters
  • Visit the medieval lanes and ancient castle on the tidal island of St Michael’s Mount
  • Discover the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Cornish Mining
  • Walk through one of Cornwall’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty
  • Indulge in Falmouth’s vibrant foodie scene and sample the delights of fresh Cornish seafood

The stunning section of the South West Coast Path (SWCP) between Penzance and Falmouth is one of great variety, and includes some of the most picturesque stretches of scenery along the entire trail.

The trail will lead you past sweeping stretches of golden sands and through sheltered forests with reminders of Cornwall’s fascinating mining history visible throughout. Dramatic cliff-top vistas are notched with hidden coves, and villages still home to busy fishing fleets will appear from their sheltered spots amongst the cliffs. Enjoy the tranquillity and isolation of the Lizard Peninsula, the ecological vibrancy of the Fowey Estuary, and the creative spirit of busting Falmouth.

This section of the SWCP offers plenty of challenges, with steep ascent and descent throughout. We would recommend that you plan to walk shorter distances than you normally would do, to ensure you have ample time to soak up the rewards of the trail.
