St Cuthbert's Way

Travel Information

Detailed Travel Information for the St Cuthbert's Way will be supplied in your Information Pack, but the following may help with your planning.

Arriving into Scotland

By Air:
Nearest International Airports: Edinburgh and Newcastle.
An airport shuttle bus operates to Edinburgh city centre (journey time 25 minutes).
The metro train service operates between Newcastle Airport and Newcastle city centre (journey time 23 minutes).

By Rail:
Nearest Railway Station: Berwick-upon-Tweed.
The closest East Coast main line station is at Berwick-upon-Tweed which links with bus services to Melrose, Wooler, Fenwick & seasonally to Holy Island. Virgin services from London to Edinburgh (journey time 4 hours 30 minutes), and between the Southwest, Midlands & Scotland also stop here.

By Road:
If you plan to travel by car it is sometimes possible to leave it at the Guest House or Hotel at the start or end of your walk, for the duration of your holiday. We can check this for you when your booking is confirmed.

Getting to Melrose

There are regular First Group Borders bus services from Edinburgh to Melrose (journey time 2 hours 20 minutes) and from Berwick-upon-Tweed railway station to Melrose (journey time 1 hour 30 minutes).

Returning from Lindisfarne

By Rail:
We recommend taking a taxi to Berwick-upon-Tweed train station (approximately £15.00). It is possible to do this journey by bus, but the schedule is rather unpredictable because of the tide. There are train services to Edinburgh, 40 minutes north, Newcastle is 50 minutes south and London is reached in 4 hours.

Taxi Service:

If you would rather travel to Melrose and return from Lindisfarne by taxi, then we'd be delighted to provide you with the contact details of taxi companies who offer this service.

Car Hire
If you wish to extend your walking holiday we would be delighted to arrange car hire for you. We offer great value, fully inclusive rates and ensure we arrange the right car to suit your needs. The rates we obtain are fully inclusive with no hidden extras, and we can arrange one way hires if you are flying into one airport and returning from another.

Train Tickets
Great savings can be made by buying your train tickets in advance through theTrainline website at
www.thetrainline.com. Although tickets can only be mailed to a UK address, overseas customers can still order tickets in advance and collect them from a Fast Ticket machine in the UK. Fast Ticket machines are located in most mainline railway stations.
