This is our suggested itinerary for The Far North & Wester Ross self-drive tour. All of our itineraries are fully flexible and we would be delighted to add additional nights, or tailor the route to match your interests. Please request this when making an enquiry

Day 1 - Inverness to Lochalsh
Depart Inverness and travel by the shores of Loch Ness to Urquhart Castle, before meeting the sea at Loch Carron. Your journey will take you to Plockton, the prettiest village in the West Highlands, where palm trees grow alongside the loch shore. Eilean Donan, the most photographed of Scotland's castles is only a short drive away.

Day 2 - Lochalsh to Gairloch area
Your tour continues through an idyllic corner of north-west Scotland. Picturesque fishing villages and crofting townships are scattered all along the coast. Discover the tranquil Applecross Peninsula and enjoy one of the most spectacular road trips in the British Isles; with breath-taking views of the Cuillin Mountains of Skye.

Enjoy the splendour of Loch Maree before arriving at your destination on the west coast.

Day 3 - Gairloch Sightseeing
Visit famous Inverewe Gardens, on a promontory of Loch Ewe, walk along miles of deserted white beaches or enjoy some of the best walking in the ancient mountains of Torridon.

Day 4 - Gairloch to Ullapool
Your next destination in the north of Scotland is Ullapool - a beautiful white-washed fishing village and the largest settlement in Wester Ross. More great beaches await you so take your time, relax and settle into a slower pace of life.

Day 5 - Ullapool Sightseeing
Discover the magical Summer Isles, visit the far flung Northwest Highlands and the grandeur and wilderness of the mountains of Assynt. Enjoy an exhilarating walk to the summit of Stac Pollaidh for stunning views of the islands or a bracing cliff top walk to the Old Man of Stoer.

Day 6 - Ullapool to Durness
A wonderfully scenic and winding road passes secluded beaches, secret bays and hidden coves to your destination in the Far North, the spectacularly located village of Durness. Tucked away behind several gorgeous white sandy beaches, Durness is a magical spot and a great base for relaxing beachfront strolls.

Day 7 - Far North Sightseeing
Walk into Sandwood Bay, one of the most beautiful beaches in Scotland, or enjoy a guided trip to Cape Wrath, the most northwesterly point in the country. See some of Britain's highest cliffs, rarest seabirds and wildlife, and the spectacular Cape Wrath Lighthouse.

Travel the old road across the very top of Scotland past the remote mountains of Ben Loyal and Ben Hope following the cliffs and stunning golden beaches of our northern coastline.

Day 8 - Return to Inverness
Descend through a wild and vastly uninhabited area back to Inverness - the Highland capital - taking a tour of the distillery that produces the Scots' favourite malt whisky on the way.
