Job Description

We are seeking to recruit a Finance & Operations Assistant – Intern as part of our continued growth plans. This would suit a recent graduate looking to gain some experience in the finance or travel industry. This internship is for a 6 month period with the possibility that the role will develop into a permanent position.

The role will play an integral part in assisting with the smooth operation of the finance side of the business by having responsibility for paying our numerous suppliers and partners as well as processing payments from our UK and international clients. The role will also involve operational duties including sending itineraries and information packs to our clients. You will be highly organised with excellent attention to detail and you should be comfortable working with figures.

All of our team are passionate about travel and the outdoors, so this role would suit someone with similar interests, as well as a good knowledge of the UK as a tourism destination.

Location

While this is an office-based role, there is the opportunity to combine this with home working for 40% of your working hours. Absolute Escapes office is located in the heart of Edinburgh at Dovecot Studios, 10 Infirmary Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1LT.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Paying our suppliers and partners through Xero accounting software
  • Processing deposits and final payments from clients
  • Following-up with our hotel partners for commission payments
  • Reconciliation of invoices and purchase orders to bank account and company credit card
  • Managing the ordering of guidebooks, maps, and stationery for the office, as well as ad hoc duties to support all business functions
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
  • A real people person who enjoys working as part of a team
  • An excellent command of both written and spoken English and strong numerical skills are required. The ideal candidate will have a Higher Grade in Mathematics and English or equivalent qualification
  • Outstanding organisation skills and strong attention to detail with a methodical approach to work
  • A high level of motivation and a strong work ethic with the ability to work on your own initiative in a small entrepreneurial business
  • Excellent computer skills with specific experience of working with spreadsheets
  • Problem solving skills and an ability to think outside the box
  • A strong commitment to excellent customer service and exceeding expectations
  • As you will be working with the tours we feature on our website a genuine passion for walking and the outdoors and knowledge of Scotland as a tourism destination would be advantageous
  • Experience of working in a similar finance or operations role within the travel industry would be an advantage but is not essential, as full training will be given
Hours
  • Monday to Friday
  • 09.00 – 17.00
  • 40 hours per week with 1 hour for lunch
Start Date

The closing date for applications is the 28th January 2022, and we expect the successful candidate to start in February.
