2019 in Pictures - A Snapshot of Our Instagram

Our Instagram page features photos from our intrepid team exploring Scotland and beyond, as well as beautiful images taken by our clients on Walking Holidays and Self-Drive Holidays

As we draw to the end of 2019, we're taking a fond look back at some of our favourite photos from the past year.

Hermaness, Shetland

Shetland has skyrocketed as one of the most popular destinations to visit this year, and James from the Absolute Escapes team ventured to the northernmost point of the islands, Hermaness at the tip of Unst, to discover the stunning views across to Muckle Flugga.

You can certainly see why the two-hour walk from the car park to pitch their tents was worth it!

Buachaille Etive Mòr, West Highland Way

This spectacular photo of Buachaille Etive Mòr on the West Highland Way was taken by Sarah Lamagna during her self-guided walking adventure.

Unsurprisingly, it was also a front runner in our 2019 Photo Competition

Elgol, Isle of Skye

This stunning shot from Elgol on the Isle of Skye could easily be mistaken for somewhere in the Mediterranean with its azure waters and bright blue skies. If only it always looked like this...

This cheeky Highland cow was spotted by Betsy Guffy on her self-drive tour of Scotland - a real Scottish icon.

Sycamore Gap, Hadrian's Wall Path

Scott from the Absolute Escapes team has certainly ticked off a huge number of long-distance walks across the UK and Ireland, and one of his many adventures this year was to walk a section of the Hadrian's Wall Path

This brilliant shot was taken as he approached the famous Sycamore Gap ...

Highland Scenery on the West Highland Way

Photos of the West Highland Way never fail to impress us, however, this spectacular photo sent into us by Jan Wenlock really blew us away.

It's little wonder why the West Highland Way is one of the most famous long-distance walks in the world with views like this!

Kingshouse Hotel, Glencoe

The iconic Kingshouse Hotel went through a major makeover last year and its grand re-opening took place in April 2019. Those lucky enough to stay there will have the pleasure of being surrounded by lots of lovely deer roaming the grounds.

Fern from the Absolute Escapes team snapped this picture while in Glencoe in October.

Kintail, Highlands

Charlotte from the Absolute Escapes team is never far from a mountain and one of her many adventures this year was into the mountains of Kintail to conquer another three Munros to add to her collection.

It's no wonder Charlotte loves getting out into the hills when she is rewarded with views like these!

Sunsets across Scotland are always pretty impressive, but this snap of Newhaven Lighthouse in Edinburgh taken by Scott from the Absolute Escapes team was particularly stunning.

Isle of Barra

It is always a pleasure to receive pictures of the Isle of Barra, the second southernmost inhabited island in the Outer Hebrides.

Our clients Ian and Cathie James sent us in over a hundred incredible photos of their time in the Outer Hebrides, so it was very hard to choose which one to post!

Hungry puffin in Northumberland

This picture of a hungry little puffin was captured by Rodney Burr during his walk on the Northumberland Coastal Path.

This trail is famous for its wild, unspoilt beauty - sweeping beaches, historic castles, rolling dunes and picturesque old coastal villages. Not to mention the wonderful wildlife ...

Jacobite Steam Train, Glenfinnan Viaduct

The train journey across the Glenfinnan Viaduct is one of the most famous train journeys in the world.

As featured in Harry Potter films and with stunning views down Loch Shiel, it's little wonder that this journey is so popular ...
